INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE CAPTURED CUPCAKE-PRINCESS WANDS

1. Paint three bamboo skewers with black acrylic paint; let dry. Paint crackle medium over the skewer; let dry until tacky. Then paint each skewer with a different color—pink, blue, or purple; let dry. (Refer to page 16 for crackling and aging techniques).

2. Glue an image onto poster board with Modge Podge. Choose three vintage images. See page 119 for one image selection. Then recut the images out and hot glue them to the painted skewers.

3. Create tiny cupcake hats by rolling two small balls of Model Magic, glue one on top of the other, and pinch the top. Cut a narrow paper strip and glue it around the lower ball to form a cupcake wrapper. Paint and embellish the upper ball for the cupcake icing, and then insert the image head partially into the cupcake from the underside; let dry.

4. Create wings for each fairy with a tinsel chenille strip. Bend the chenille-strip ends in a oval toward the center, and then hot-glue the center to the back of the image.

5. Embellish the wands with rhinestones and ribbon.
